Canon RF 45mm F1.2 STM 採用 7 組 9 片光學結構，當中包括一片大口徑 PMo 複製非球面鏡片，能有效抑制球面像差，確保在全開光圈下仍能維持中央與邊緣的解像力。光圈由 9 片圓形葉片構成，令背景虛化更柔和自然，由於 45mm 焦距比常見的 50mm 標準鏡略廣，更貼近人眼視角，適合街拍使用。對比價錢貴幾倍的 RF 50mm F1.2L USM 紅圈鏡頭，Canon 表示這支平價版 F1.2 光圈鏡的散景傾向「溫潤」與「柔光」感，與 L 鏡的風格截然不同。

在操控與對焦上，Canon 為這支平價 F1.2 鏡頭採用了齒輪式 STM 馬達和前組對焦設計，於單次自動對焦及伺服自動對焦均支援電子全時手動對焦，配合固定鏡筒結構，能在保持小巧體積的同時提供順暢準確的自動對焦表現。RF 45mm F1.2 STM 的最近對焦距離為 0.45 米，最高放大率為 0.13x，而拍攝影片時亦支援對焦呼吸校正，這項過往僅見於高階鏡頭的功能，如今也下放至平價鏡款。鏡頭控制環亦可自訂功能，如調整 ISO 感光度、光圈或快門速度，使用上具一定靈活性。
